As part of its popular Language Immersion for the Holidays program, the international faculty
at the ground-breaking Escola de Línguas Millennium took 150 English, French, German and
Spanish language immersion students to Pinacoteca on Saturday, January 12, 2013.
The Field Trip was designed to insert the students into an artistic environment where they
could interact with each other and Millennium faculty in the language they are studying
(Millennium teaches 8 languages) against the inspirational backdrop of great Brazilian artists
like Portinari and Almeida Jr.
Many of the students had never visited this historic arts institution in São Paulo before and
received the double benefit of strengthening their language skills and touching in to Brazil’s
substantial cultural heritage.
“This type of class experience stimulates the students a lot,” says Paivi Tiura, a former film
wardrobe supervisor from Finland who’s now an English and Finnish teacher at Escola de
Línguas Millennium.
“They learn a lot of new vocabulary and ways to use it, of course, but more importantly, they
have a chance to free up their intuition and creativity, which help them much more than just
doing grammar exercises and memorizing phrases,” she adds.
Escola de Línguas Millennium employs an avant-garde psycho-linguistic methodology that uses
arts and aesthetics liberally in the classroom. The dynamic method has been developed by
noted Brazilian psychoanalyst and educator, Norberto Keppe. It has attracted an international
faculty from Europe and the Americas who apply Keppe’s findings in innovative new ways to
help students acquire languages in a less stressful, more enjoyable and efficient way.
The next Field Trip will be a workshop on how our psychology and emotions affect our health.
It will be held on January 19, 2013 and conducted by Dr. Julieta Vilareal from Colombia and
psychoanalyst, Selma Genzani from the International Society of Analytical Trilogy. Students will
be discussing health and fitness issues in the languages they are studying.
The final Field Trip of this Language Immersion for the Holidays program will be Friday, January
25. Called The Secret History of Brazil, it celebrates the true esoteric origins of the country, and
is one of Escola de Línguas Millennium’s most popular outings.
“I would say almost 100% of Brazilians have never heard this version of history before,” says
Sofie Bergqvist, Millennium English and Swedish, “And they’re always enchanted to hear this
beautiful story.”
The tour is based on Claudia Bernhardt Pacheco’s book of the same name, elaborated after
years of research in Europe and the Americas, and is true to the Millennium vision of famous
mystics and writers, including Joaquin Di Fiore, Christopher Columbus and Fernando Pessoa.
